Kern County Basque Festival 2014

Bakersfield’s dancers perform the ezpata dantza.

The Kern County Basque Festival, held on Memorial Day weekend in May, is the largest Basque festival in California. This year, the Kern County Basque Club also hosted the annual summer convention of the North American Basque Organizations (NABO). As a result, NABO delegates from all over the U.S. attended the event, and many visiting dance groups also performed.

The club hosted an accordion festival on Friday night and brought professional handball players from the Basque Country. Luhartz, a band from Durango that has previously performed for the Kern County Basque Festival, played popular dance songs that filled the dance floor.
